The Gap Creek trails cater predominantly for cross country and trail / all mountain riders. If you're starting your mountain bike experience or an intermediate rider Gap Creek has a range of trails to keep you entertained. If you're an advanced / gravity rider you probably already know the trails back to front and although fun for a leg burner look for more technical, challenging terrain. Read below to find out what Gap Creek mountain bike trails are best for you and your MTB riding ability as recommended by the For The Riders team.
Beginners
As a new rider Gap Creek is the perfect place to start your mountain bike experience and develop your skills. The range of cross country trails offer some basic technical features and fun, flowy corners. The gradient isn't steep so you can chose to build up your speed as your confidence grows. Our favourite beginner trails is 'Rocket Frog' which offers one of the longest descents in Gap Creek. As you feel more confident on the green trails you can look at stepping it up to blue trails like 'Echidna'.
Intermediate
Gap Creek is covered in blue trails perfect for the intermediate rider. Although most are still cross country style trails, wise track selection can please an all mountain rider with longer descents and some more technical features. We recommend 'Dingo' trail for a good mix of speed, technical turns with a few small log roll overs thrown in. If you're looking for some more challenging terrain head over to the Highwood Rd tail entrance and try out tracks like 'Old Vietnam' and 'Pipeline' to push yourself.
Advanced
As an advanced rider you probably already know Gap Creek well and you're confident with all the technical features the area has to offer. Although no longer challenging its good to get out for a leg burner and keep the fitness up whilst having a bit of fun. We'll have some more info on advanced rider locations coming soon.
Bike Recommendations
As Gap Creek has a diverse range of MTB trails you can tackle it on many different bikes depending on the experience you're after. A favourite of ours is the Giant Trance 29", a great all round bike that is perfect for Gap Creek and Brisbane's surrounding mountain bike trail network. Offering 115mm of rear suspension travel and 130mm up front on 29" wheels the Trance climbs well yet can back it up on the descents with great handling.
